A company with a history
The history of REISS Büromöbel GmbH is a journey full of innovations, adaptations and constant growth - a history that we look back on with pride. It all began in 1882, when our founder Robert Reiss opened a small precision mechanics and engineering workshop in Bad Liebenwerda. What began as a modest enterprise quickly developed into a successful company that manufactured technical devices and precision tools that played an important role in the emerging industrialisation of Germany.
Our history of over 140 years is characterised by change, innovation and constant growth. We have learnt to constantly reinvent ourselves and meet the challenges of the times without losing sight of our values. We look to the future with this attitude and look forward to continuing to create working environments that fulfil people and their needs.
We are proud of what we have achieved - and excited about what is yet to come. With our new REISS Cuadro® and REISS Trailo® product ranges, we are breaking new, innovative ground.
We are not only committed to progress, but also to sustainability. Our production processes are environmentally friendly and we use recyclable materials wherever possible. It is important to us that our products not only impress today, but also enable a better future.
German reunification brought challenges for many companies - and we also had to reorient ourselves. But we saw an opportunity in this time of upheaval. Privatisation and reorientation towards modern markets enabled us to further develop our company and break new ground.
We took the opportunity to modernise our production and focus more on ergonomic and innovative office furniture that meets the growing demands of modern working environments.
Today, we are recognised not only in Germany but also internationally as a supplier of high-quality office furniture. Our products stand for quality, durability and innovation. We are particularly proud of our solutions in the field of ergonomic workstations, which increase the well-being and productivity of employees.
The Second World War brought hard times for our company. Our factories were destroyed and it seemed as if our future was uncertain. But we did not give up.
In the GDR, we resumed production under the name ‘VEB Büroeinrichtungen’ and quickly became a leading manufacturer of office furniture in East Germany. The robustness and functionality of our products made us well-known throughout the region and we began to rebuild a strong market position.
In the 1920s, we decided on a decisive reorientation: we saw the potential of the emerging office environment and the growing demand for functional and comfortable workstations.
Thus began our journey as an office furniture manufacturer, and we set out to develop products that were not only aesthetically pleasing, but also ergonomic and functional. This decision laid the foundation for the company we are today.
Even in the first decades of our company's history, we recognised that success can only be achieved through progress. Robert Reiss was a pioneer of his time, and we followed his example by constantly looking for new ways to improve our products and conquer the market.
A highlight of this early phase was our award at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, where we won a gold medal for our precision tools. This international success motivated us to expand further and develop our expertise.
